Welcome to the
Mixed-signal Microelectronics (MsM) Group
The MsM group is, as will be clear from the name, working in the area of mixed-signal microelectronics. This means circuit design for ICs that comprise a combination of analog and digital electronics. The group has both educational and research responsibilities, as expressed in our mission:
The MsM group aims
- to provide top-level scientific research in mixed-signal circuit design for connectivity and broadband communication;
- to bridge the gap between scientific research and industrial R&D; and
- to educate academic M.Sc. and Ph.D. students that satisfy the needs from industry and society.
As regards education, the group takes care for all lectures and design projects on analog and mixed-signal electronics that are part of the Bachelor and Master programs of Electrical Engineering, and in traineeships and final projects for master students. The master projects are strongly related to the Ph.D. projects, which on their turn form the backbone of our research activities.
As regards research, the group focuses on IC design for smart and embedded front ends for broadband communication and connectivity. This comprises the two main fields of activities in our group:
- RF and microwave transceiver electronics and
- AD and DA conversion.
The first one covers the analog signal path path from antenne to baseband and vice versa; the second one the next part of the frontend: the translation to and from digital. In both areas we balance scientific and fundamental research with applied research, through complete integration of properly chosen relevant IC-design vehicles, in close cooperation with industry.
